My DeLo was an eBay purchase as well (as were 3 of my 5 Lincolns). Every used car goes through a shakedown period. Old systems, many of which have sat idle to the point of age deterioration alone, *WILL* fail. Questionable engineering and low quality manufacturing *WILL NOT* stand the test of time. Any purchaser who fails to expect such is not being realistic. Unfortunately, the only way to discover what has survived on a vehicle is to put it into service. Some failures will be vehicle specific (for example: broken dash clocks on just 2 of my Lincolns, one of which only recently stopped). Others are endemic to the entire marque -- not a single automatic headlight dimmer still works on any of my cars, nor on the cars of anyone I have corresponded with. It's an arduous process to debug a used car, but what else can an owner do? Congratulations on being immortalized in print. I got a copy of SSI(2) for Xmas too. Read the whole book in one sitting.
