Don't think cover would keep out humidity. Suppose a little water could be slung on top of tank by wheels, but only a fraction of that would ever make it into pump boot. Even smaller amount -- drops -- would actually hit fasteners and electrical connections. None would stay there (are raised within boot area). I think people with rusty pumps end up filling entire boot until it runs over lip. Mine used to before rigging up rain guard. My rain guard is attached to outside of spare tire well upper lip, and extends all the way to tank. Side to side extends from passenger frame to fill or vent tube (can't remember which).
