Called fire department buddy. Got very negative response. His life is spiralling out of control. Wife and mother wrecking his cars. Every time he tries to weld on Doodle Bug something else falls off. County politics bad. Daughter won't toilet train. List goes on and on. The boy needs a vacation BAD (other than taking wife to see relatives in Buffalo). Am seriously considering treating him to some R&R. Is old and dear friend so would be money well spent. Of course that doesn't help you... He's terrified of opening another can of worms. Envisions DeLorean disintegrating in driveway the way Doodle Bug is in garage. Doesn't have utmost confidence in little silver cars to begin with. Am struggling to make SEDOC myself. AFTER that, may consider two pronged attack in DC: - Get fire department buddy out of Dodge for a weekend (all wife will allow) - Reduce your crumple tube project to welding only. Can drive my truck to DC (his is out of service) and use to transport your car without him. You can prepare replacement section(s). If I buy him a vacation, surely he can reimburse with some well placed welds. Truth be told, once you got him started could probably get whole afternoon of honest to goodness fabrication. But before then he needs to think is welding that bottom plate only. Did I mention he modified frame of his truck himself from an old tow truck? The boy really is quite good.
