[DMCForum] Re: Removing broken front spoiler studs

Hi Joshua.

I've also broken several of these studs on my car. All of them, in
fact.

1.
To get the stud plates out, I used a Dremel rotary tool with a cutoff
wheel to score the plastic at the outline of the stud plate, then
pried the plate out with a screwdriver. After vigorously scrubbing
out the rust with a rotary wirebrush, I glued the replacement plates
(which I made)in with PC-7 epoxy paste. I did this on the spoiler
mounting locations on the side of the spoiler, which connect to the
metal body panels.

2.
On some of my mounting locations, I did what you're asking about,
that is, drilled through the old stud location, and used a regular
bolt. I did this on the locations that attach the spoiler to the
grill, and the front ones that connect the spoiler to the fascia. I
consider it superior to the stock method. I wouldn't do this in a
visually prominent location, but this location is not.

Have fun.

Rick

common occurrence with these studs, so I'm neither particularly
worried nor upset about it. I do have two questions, however:

The broken ones snapped off fairly flush with the edge of the
spoiler, so there's not really anything sticking up out of the
plastic.

place, and used regular bolts instead of the embedded studs to hold
the spoiler to the front fascia? Would you consider it a successful
alternative?
