The tank, and fuel pump, were so clean it was as if someone had done this just before I bought it. The fuel pump cleaned up to look like it just came out of the box. I used a hand pump to remove about six gallons of fuel and wiped the inside of the tank down with white rags. They were just stained from the gas, no black stuff. I may have damaged the screen that lays under the plastic piece though, not sure. I haven't found a good picture of how it is supposed to look. There was no varnish or any black goo, really no trash at all in the tank. The suction hose is a bit squishy.
