I had a scuba light that used a reed switch.  It didn't last too long, but
then I held a strong magnet to it a few times which might have had
something
to do with it.  (typical me)

I would really like to have a fuel sender that would give a warning before
the tank was overfilled -- especially considering all the points for
leaks.

Do you have any ideas for a better design?  (Not that any of us would get
around to building one.)  I was thinking about using a capacitance meter
but
that might not be reliable enough.  Another idea was to use a long coil of
wire where the turns get progressively tighter at one end.  Then the float
would have a metal sleeve in it that would linearly change the inductance
of
the coil based on the float's position.  Or would the presence of fuel
alone
change inductance?  Or is this a topic more suitable for the DMC Electrics
Yahoogroup?  :-)

Another idea is to use an ultrasonic device for detecting the fuel level
like is used in cryogenic nitrogen bottles.
