I heard that the original seat backs are made of a base of composite board that has some holes cut in it. When people reupholster, they often replace this board with one that has no holes. The holes allow your body weight to push through the hole without pushing the board out. Without the holes, the board pushes out. This is only what I've heard, so take it with a few grains of salt. I've never had a problem with my seat backs... 22K miles and sitting for 4 months! Let us know what you find out.
