Ironically I just had my home system looked at and questioned a very similar set up. It was explained to me that this is a water trap added on purpose so that, as the tech guy stated, "you don't smell the stuff". On my truck there seems to be a similar arrangement that would make sense so it does not pick up the outside air and exhaust fumes and deliver them into the passenger compartment. Did that make sense? Tonight I got the first good look down the inside of the condensate drain tube from the passenger compartment end. It looks like on purpose there is a restriction just above the elbow. From the top it looks like you are looking down into a funnel that restricts the ID of the tube to about 1/2 of normal. Does anyone know a logical reason why it is like this? Wouldn't it be better to keep the ID of the tube at 100% all the way to reduce the chance of clogging?
