Hi Richard

It's very low current and the connections are all to ground in the sender. Plus it's only 12v. It's also true that for any combustion to occur, you need three things: heat, fuel and oxygen. In this case the latter is in very short supply. It's the same reason the fuel pump works - the fuel actually flows around the armature

The original design of the OEM sender was very poor. Although repairable, don't expect it to last long
