Re: [doc] Re: To Turbo or not to Turbo

I'm no expert here! BUT. I don't like the "mickey mouse" Island kit. It does add power, but there are much better ways of
doing this with greater reliablility. To paraphrase my mate Si: "If you can't get at least 100 hp per litre out of it before
you start, there's no point in adding a turbo".

The Island kit does run significantly hotter but I think that's mostly down to the lack of intercoolers (engine gets hot air
all the time).

Strange as it may seem, the Diesel Centre have more experience with turbos than most as more than half of diesel cars these
days are turbocharged.

You said "One turbo is cheaper and with space at a premium I'd guess that's why there are more of these applications".
Remember with a twin setup each blower can be half the size.

I think we all need to meet up with Si - I sent him the link off the DML today of the rotary engined D. As he's a fan of older
Jap cars he liked it a lot, and started muttering about getting a D with a view to dropping a "decent" engine into it.

FWIW his Skyline has a single turbocharged 2 litre strait 6. It has a garrett T4 blower which boosts to up to 24psi generating
in excess of 400bhp. Here's a piccy of the einge bay. See how big that turbo is?!

I want this car!
