RE: [doc] DVLA Inspection/ number plates

Went yesterday afternoon, The police and registration people where there
checking the cars.  The police where all over a stretched limo and
weren't happy with the paper work and chassis.

I was talking to a police woman, she was saying in the US the limos can
only be used for 5 years because of the strain on the chassis so they
then sell them to us, as it stands there is no law stopping this but the
police are trying to bring one in.  She said one day a limo will be in a
crash and a lot of people will be killed, we've been lucky so far.

They also crawled all over a Jensen Interceptor taking photos of it etc,
in the end they said it hadn't been started for years and was totally
rotten so the MOT it had must have been dodgy, the owner wasn't very
happy.

The police didn't look at my car at all except to say things like its
totally stainless steel good for finger prints etc!!  The registration
woman just noted down the details on the vin plate and sent me away.

So hopefully I'll have my reg number tomorrow.

lol That would be good for speed cameras get the barcode reader out!!

I've just been told there has been a cancellation today so I'll be
taking it at 2.30pm but now I've just got to put the car back together
again after taking half the centre consol apart and I can get out of
work until 12.  I think I'll just leave most of it as it is.

I'd be tempted to go anyway, as long as you are insured and Mot'd,
display the original American number plate.

I've been driving Backy around with my Red and silver "Bar code" rar
number plate, just awaiting PC plod to pull me up, but nothing yet!

I phoned them up to try and arrange it sooner.  It is the local office
doing the inspection and just a check on vin numbers etc making sure the
car exists and is what its meant to be.

The woman said it was just a random check and the car was high value but
like you say I think they just wanted a look at a Delorean!!

I'm just annoyed because its delayed the issue of my reg number and
messed up Harpenden and JAE in Billing Aquadrome this weekend.

James

In my experience, it will be to check the VIN and engine numbers.

We used to get a lot of cars inspected buy the local VRO for cars
that were having a cherished transfers and had not been taxed for a
long time (IE Before SORN).

It'll be one of the people from the local office looking at VIN
plates and checking the engine number, assuming no problems that will
be it and they'll issue you a reg number that day with the tax disc.

They like inspecting unusual cars at the DeLorean has probably caught
their eye - we got so many in the past as they were always Ferrari's.

Hope you'll be at Harpenden
