[doc] M18 plug in engine - what is hiding under it?

Hi all -
I need some more help when cleaning up the heart of my engine.
Part 9 at 1.1.1. in the Parts Manual shows an M18 plug right behind the 
waterpump - earlier leaks have made this really rusty and I'd like to 
replace it just for the heck of it.

My question is this - can I undo the plug by simply screwing it out?
What will happen? Is there an oil canal under it or coolant or what?
What is it for?  I don't want to screw this one up! ;)
