Michael Goodlad DOC#159

1981 DeLorean DMC-12

Registration no: Not UK Registered
Chassis no: SCEDT26T48DOO2325
Estimate: £4,000-6,000

Purchased from the Ted Vernan collection, this model featured here
was imported from Miami in 1989; the original aluminum bodywork has
been painted silver to match the bumpers. In 2002, the car underwent
miner restoration work including the electrical system and engine.
The mileage is quoted as 15,000 by the vendor who states that the car
is currently unregistered in the UK. A Flux Capacitor is not included
When John DeLorean started his own company in 1984, he stated that he
wanted to build an 'ethical' rear engined sports car. This was
probably the last time that word would be used when describing his
company. After setting up base in Northern Ireland, John DeLorean and
85 million pounds from the British Government developed first a
hybrid plastic-fiber glass frame, then a steel backboned frame, both
designed by Lotus. Power came from a Peugeot-Renault-Volvo V6 unit
putting 130 bhp through the back rubber. Deliveries began in 1981 and
despite quality control problems, its radical design and state of the
art gull wing doors created a stir amongst the motoring press. The
Giorgio Guigiaro-designed body even caught the eye of Hollywood,
staring as it did in three 'Back to the Future' blockbusters
alongside Michael J Fox and Christopher Lloyd.
