The reason that I carry a halon extinguisher is that I was told that it was best for electrical fires as in the dashboard. 
I once saw a co-worker's car burn in the parking lot. The fire started under the dash. 
I have never needed it and I hope that I never will, but just in case, I have one and a regular extinguisher as well.
