Weight savings ... I recall a GM exec say that for every 100lbs in car weight there is a 6% increase in gas mileage (don't quote me on the numbers). That coupled with the fact that most spare tires sold never get used in their lifetime helps justify the elimination of spare tires. Of course, as you sit on the side of the road with a flat it doesn't make any difference relative to gas mileage or the fact that only a small percent of tires go flat since yours is now 100% flat.
