I have the same vibration of the steering wheel at highway speeds. I replaced the steering column bushing, which did not help. Next on the list is the sway bar bushings (or ARB bushes outside the U.S.). Since no one was complaining about steering wheel vibrations back in 1981, I can only assume that the vibration is caused by an old component that needs to be replaced. Strapping a new part on may treat the symptom, but not the cause. Plus the bushings are cheaper than those brackets...
