I belong to a large number of professional list serves. They have all gone through the insulting and degrading phase. They tried a number of rules to stop this. They only marginally worked. What really happened is that the trouble makers eventually got IGNORED by the list members who wanted to talk about issues. The list now focus on important subjects and questions. HOWEVER, the list serve traffic has been greatly reduced. Clearly, a number of member quit the lists (as told by the moderators). Ironically, the list moderators were then accused of CENSORSHIP and even MORE people quit. I agree with Bill we need to keep this list open and essentially un moderated. If DON"T LIKE what someone posted IGNORE IT. It works elsewhere.
