A third story (to add to Gary M's list) is from Louie G, whose D was T-boned by a land yacht. The car was a total loss, but he walked away with scratches. I'd say it did its job. For anyone who still doesn't grok this concept, think about the surge protector that your TV is plugged into. If you get home and your house has been struck by lightning, you may find that your surge protector is a smoking pile of useless mess. But when you plug your TV into the wall, it turns on and functions as normal. This means the surge protector WORKED! Its job is to sacrifice itself in order to save the much more valuable thing that is plugged into it. This is the same concept: the car is supposed to sacrifice itself to save its occupants.
