RE: [DML] DOA/DCS

Exactly! This is why I'm pushing involvement. I'm also hearing the issues
that people have with the club as it stands, which is preventing them from
joining.

As I see them, these are the problems that are the most critical for us to
solve in the coming weeks:

1. Very little or no transparency in regards to club operations.

2. Perception that little of value is provided in exchange for the
cost of membership.

3. Perception of elitism tied into the lack of transparency.

If we get nothing else done, these things MUST be taken care of. There are
of course, many other things that need to be dealt with in order to
accomplish removing these barriers, but I've never been afraid of a little
hard work.

I've seen the multiple posts on the idea of changing the name of the club.
This has come up from time to time in the Board meetings I've been involved
with as Webmaster. As with everything, there are those opposed, and those
for it. It may be on the list to discuss on the 15th, although this list is
getting awfully long, awfully fast!

I normally wouldn't comment on this but.... I previously owned several
monthly magazines. You have a fixed printing cost regardless of how many
magazines you print just to make it to press. The actual cost per magazine
is much lower when you print a larger quantity. For many of these clubs the
number of members would allow a larger press run and thus a lower cost per
magazine. The fewer members in a club, the higher the cost to each member
for the magazine. Without knowing much about the DOA or the number of
members I would have to guess if there were twice the number of members, the
cost per member would drop dramatically for the same benefits. Kind of a
double edged sword.. More members would reduce the cost and allow more
benefits, but no one wants to join a club with a high cost and no benefits.

Just my $.02
