Your really need to have the engine running or be powering with a power supply. You also should be using 14 AWG wire connected to the meter. You will find without doing these things your readings will be 2 or 3 amps lower. Also measuring fans not mounted (blocked) by the radiator will increase the current. My OEM fans not mounted will be greater than 15 amps a 13.5 volts.
