My first contact with John DeLorean was in 1981 when I purchased a DeLorean automobile. I called the company office regarding problems I was experiencing with the car, which the dealer was not handling. John DeLorean picked up the phone and talked to me as though I was a friend of his and not just a customer. He went on for half an hour discussing his future plans for his company, including low emission buses for Washington, DC. I was impressed that a man of his stature and immersion in company business would take this much time to talk to one customer. He asked whether I could part with my car for a few weeks - to take it to the DMC Quality Assurance Center in nearby Somerville, NJ. There, they upgraded my car to all the new features planned for the future; e.g., an electric antenna to replace the rigid one on the front fender. This was impressive customer satisfaction. I drove this car almost daily for the 25 years I owned it. As a charter member of the DeLorean Owners Association, I was in contact with people who knew the truth regarding false charges of drug dealing. This scandal, together with the political changes in the British government led to the demise of DMC. Those politicians were so vindictive that they had the factory tooling and dies for the DeLorean cast into the deepest part of the ocean off the British coast, so that the company could not be revived. Years later, I met John's daugher, Catherine. She attended the same private school in Lawrenceville, NJ, as my daughter. She was so proud of her father, and was elated that the school physician was driving "her father's car," which she always called it. This book was a pleasure to read; it filled in many gaps in the story which I had heard in bits and pieces. It was the adventure of a brilliant man who accomplished his dream. The car he produced is still alive today. ------------------------------------ To address comments privately to the moderating team, please address: moderators@xxxxxxxxxxx For more info on the list, tech articles, cars for sale see www.dmcnews.com To search the archives or view files, log in at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/dmcnewsYahoo!
