It sure sounds like your fuel pump or a kinked pick up hose. If you put fresh gas in right after the problem, it's probably your pump as the cold fuel calms the pump. Happened to three of us about 4 years ago at the exact same time coming back from California in July. All of our pumps got hot from the fans/road/uphill driving and we all stopped at the same time. I made an airdam from a 18-wheeler mud flap and I don't have that issue anymore.
