If we keep the overall diameter and width the same, it should be OK.

Kind of off topic: What would be very interesting is to go to a
lighter alloy wheel or wheels with less moment of inertia.  Given a
fixed torque output, if we change our wheels to have less moment of
inertia, we can accelerate faster.  

The OEM Delorean wheel weighs around 22 lbs.  I have seen new alloy
rims that have the same dimensions as the original but weighs only 14
lbs.  Google "mag wheels" and see what you can come up with.
