Re: [DML] Major electrical problem

Jake,

There is no fuse 20, so I'm not sure what you are talking about. Is it a relay? In the workshop manual, the #20 relay is the low beam headlights. Or is it #30, main fuel / lambda?

In any case, if it hasn't been done already, replace all the fuses and relays with the relay update kit. Replace the fan relays with a Joe Cool from DMC Midwest. As you replace them, make sure the sockets are clean and tight.

DO NOT drive the car until this is fixed, or you could have a spectacular fire. We'll need more information to figure it out. If you're not sure what it is, please post a picture and someone can help.

Subject: [DML] Major electrical problem

Have a very large problem with my D

I have had a melted socket in the fuse panel since I bought it not too
long ago but never really paid much attention to it at first... The
only socket melted is the #20 Engine control socket on the top middle
of the panel... Recently, after I got it out after winter, I notice
that the fuse socket is getting insanely hot and the area around the
fuse is gummy after just a few minutes of running... The socket has
melted the plastic away and they are just two wires connected to the
fuse... You can hold your hand above the fuse and feel quite a bit of
heat coming from the panel... Does anybody know a potential cause of
this and what to do to remedy the situation? Would this have anything
to do with the melting fuse for my brights as well??? One other thing
is that when I step on the brakes my engine seems to want to die and
all of the lights dim in the car... Seems to me like I have some major
problems with it but if anybody has any info on where to start it would
be much appreciated? ??
