Although it is better on the struts with the doors open. You must keep in mind the environment the D will be stored in. You would want the D stored in a climate controlled environment that would not allow any animals, moisture, dust and whatnots getting into the car. I have the same set of struts on my car for the past 4 or 5 yrs and store it with the doors closed and haven't had any problems.
