RE: [DML] Houston Server Down? ("Front Strut Bar" Question)

Bill,

I have a strut bar that I'll sell to you cheap if you want it. In
principle I think the strut bar is a good idea. I bought one. When I got
it, I saw that the construction is such that (in my opinion - I worked
as a structural engineer for many years, do have some understanding of
such things) it will add little to the rigidity of the front, so I
didn't install it. In fairness, the guy I bought it from (I don't
remember his name now, but I think he is probably still on this list)
was quite agreeable to refunding if I wasn't happy with it. I just never
got around to returning it.

The problem is that the bar does not attach directly to the top of the
struts. Rather, there is a ~5" cantilever up from top of the strut to
the inside of the trunk, where the bar is installed. This cantilever
consists of a bushing held in place by a ~5/8" (1/2"?) diameter bolt.
Appears to me that the stiffness of this arrangement is not sufficient
to make any significant difference in the handling. There has been some
discussion on this list regarding whether it really makes a difference
or not, some people swear by it.

Subject: [DML] Houston Server Down? ("Front Strut Bar" Question)

I've been corresponding with an owner Re: a DMCMW product known as the
"front strut bar". This is not a sway bar, but some aftermarket
development that attaches to the front body bolts. I've never heard of
such, thus tried to surf to the DMCMW website to check it out.
Apparently DMCMW uses the DMCH server, which I haven't been able to
access for some time now. Back then, I thought the problem might be my
antiquated browsers. Just downloaded the latest versions of three
(Netscape, Mozilla, and -- ugh -- IE) and still can't bring it up.
Does anyone know what's going on in Houston?

OR

Does anyone have info and/or pics of DMCMW's "front strut bar"? I am
curious about what it is.
