The most common cause of gas fume smell is worn, old, misinstalled fuel pump boots. Remove the spare tire and then the curved piece of fiberglass that is held in by all of those screws. You will see the round black rubber cover boot for the fuel pump. Loosen the clamp and peel back the cover boot. Look in at the pump and see is it is corroded, if there is water or fuel in the boot, etc. If the boot is hard and not very pliable (the cover boot too) just replace them. Another common problem is the wrong or a damaged fuel cap. Easy to fix, get another.
