General Motors (didn't John DeLorean darken their hallways from time to time?) pioneered HEI in the 1970's. Became their default ignition. Every vehicle that rolled out of Flint MI burned high voltage inductive ignition until capacitive ignition took over in the mid 1980's. Surely General Motors generated some sort of data to make that decision.
