I worked on a Stage II for someone in the area. It was an automatic. One of the valve adjusters had loosened up and backed out and was laying on the head under the valve cover. Had NO power and made a loud clacking noise. Once I put it back and checked the other valves it ran nice. Slightly louder than a stock car but it definately had some extra "pulling" power! If I had a Delorean and the engine melted down I would consider putting one in. It seemed to be a good fit for the automatic. If you don't bash on it the transmission should last. In the automatic the torque convertor helps to smooth things out so you don't have the sudden shock loads like a 5-speed if you were to "dump" on the clutch. My guess is the gas mileage would be some amount less than a stock PRV. The performance roughly would equal the stock PRV in a 5-speed. The stock PRV with an automatic is a "slug".
