Well, I did find the answer: they do appear to be 7/8". Since the car is pretty much all metric, I never looked at the "other" half of my caliper. After a few phone calls, I was able to find a local bearing supplier that reconfirmed the size for me. Normally they are like read in the decimal so you can get it down to the thousandth. 22mm would be to loose in the reading.
