I know everyone here is used to my rants, offering my unpopular opinions on just about everything. So why not add another to the list? Although I am speaking from my experiences as an officer of DeLorean Mid-Atlantic (DMA), For the purposes of this discussion I ONLY SPEAK FOR MYSELF, AND NOT THE CLUB, IT'S MEMBERS, OR OFFICERS. For as long as I can remember, Vendors have helped to support the DMA. Most notably, PJ Grady. Rob has spent more hours than I can count inspecting club members cars for free, not to mention the thousands of dollars worth of items (for raffle) and discounts to club members. (Might as well throw in a plug for him here! Check out the PJ Grady web site at http://www.pjgrady.com/) More recently, the DMA has received donation of raffle items from DMCH, BTTF.COM, DeLorean Car Show, and John Hervey (Probably more that I forgot). We even have some MEMBERS who donate items to help raise money for the club and keep our membership fee low (Probably the lowest of any official organized and insured "club") With all of the support the club gets from these vendors, I find it odd that I continue to run in to DeLorean owners who have no idea that there are any DeLorean clubs. That is true even for the 2 DeLoreans "in the wild" that I spotted just this past week in San Diego. As the local clubs have continued to grow, with the largest of them being DCS, I see the quality of DeLoreans INCREASING. The cars are in better shape than they were 10 yrs ago, and I can only imagine this translates to more sales for the vendors. It is my opinion that being active in the club, and being exposed to other DeLorean's and DeLorean owners is what has inspired the increased quality of the car. Based on that, I conclude the vendors would profit from increased club membership. It is clear the vendors have and continue to support the current club members, but based on my point of view they have not been pro-active in getting owners more involved in the clubs. Am I correct in this opinion? Maybe I have just had the unfortunate luck of running across DeLorean owners "in the wild" that don't know about the clubs? I'd love to hear what other people think about this. All of us have probably stumbled upon a random DeLorean owner. So, I pose this question to the vendors: Can you assist us in recruiting more members? I would not object to some reasonable "checklist", such as having insurance and bylaws, to get recognition in a way that lets your customers know we exist. Maybe you can include a list of these clubs with all invoices sent out? ____________________________________________________________________________________ Fussy? Opinionated? Impossible to please?
