Hello, I've been lurking for a while but this is my first post. My name is Steven Clark and I'm from So. Indiana, near Louisville KY. My father purchased a Delorean this past spring that has sat for a while, and we've been working on getting it going, freshening up various things. We tore into the gas tank last night to install our new special-t fuel pump. While cleaning up the inside of the tank there is a tar like coating across the bottom, it needs to come out and we almost have all of it. What I'm wondering is what is this stuff? Is it something that leached out of years of old gas? A factory installed coating from the factory? Did some rubber piece liquefy? Did someone try to repair a leak at some time? My fear is that it's some sort of leak fix and now we'll have a leaky gas tank. thank you.
