Posted by: "daviddcalifornia" daviddcalifornia@xxxxxxxxx daviddcalifornia Date: Mon May 7, 2007 4:04 pm ((PDT)) With regard to washing the exterior of the DMC, can you go thru a regular car wash or should you use stainless steel cleaner? What's the best way to wash it? I'd either stick to a "touchless" car wash or do it by hand - I had a so-called "brushless" car wash at a reputable major brand gas station (the Mobil on the 6000 block of US 192 in Kissimmee, Florida, by the entry road to Celebration) rip both mirrors right off of the car last year! The whirling strips of soft cloth that supposedly are softer than old style bristle brushes wraped right around the mirrors on contact and pulled them right off of the doors. The manager didn't seem all that surprised, and already had an insurance claim proceedure in place, so it must happen fairly often. To their credit, they did, as promised, later reimburse me for the full cost (almost $700) of having both mirrors properly replaced with original NOS parts & labor by DMC Florida. Still, it's a good thing that I couldn't open the doors to get out of the car for nearly three minutes while the wash cycle finished - that gave me a bit of time to calm down somewhat or I might well be in prison right now for murder...
