We have noticed as shrinkage of the fascias over time occurs the shrinkage  
is linear 
Basically it gets shorter everywhere so the holes for the liscence plate  are 
now closer as are the tail lights.
 
some shrink bad enough that the licence holes if  off as Dave described would 
be off even more over time.
 
We have seen this a lot especially ones that have been removed and  allowed 
to set.
 
Just another piece in the puzzle of what happens to our cars over  time
