[DML] Re: Parking Brake...NOT!



You have to make sure the cables are not frozen. It is common for one
to get stuck so it won't move when you pull the handle. Another common
problem is the self adjusters. They don't. The only way to adjust is
to remove the cotter pin on the big screw and turn it 1/2 to 1 turn.
You may also have to replace the pads. I have also seen where the
parts just don't move. It can take disassembling the E-Brakes and
cleaning, relubricating, and reassembly to get it to work. The E-Brake
can be made to work pretty good but it isn't going to smoke the tires
if you have to use it because you lost the service brakes. It *should*
hold the car still though, in fact, it really has to on the 5-speeds.
If they test the washer pump for inspection you can figure you will
NEVER pass if the E-Brake won't hold!
