I am naturally cynical about the DOA. However, I will say that Red Rock Station is a pretty classy place by all accounts. Relatively new, and a bit on the oppulent side (my company Christmas party was held in one of their ballrooms last December). Foods pretty good too if you have them cater. But I am in total agreement with Marc on this being a huge failure for the DOA, and a sign of the times for them. Not just because they failed to attract enough attendees, but because they went about this the entirely wrong way (explained below). Tuxr is right too that most people will want to stay on the strip as well. Now there is of course another aspect to take into consideration, and that's room rates vs. convetion space (meeting space, vehicle storage, etc.) But even then, the DOA failed. There are ways to get things like this together in a package deal, or at the very least negotiated. I doubt they did that, given the prices and location chosen. Yeah, the strip is expensive, but a quick check on Priceline & Orbitz shows that there are Strip rates cheaper than Red Rock! And we're not talking about Travelodge, or Motel 6. Hey, even the Travelodge is reporting back being $100 cheaper! Hey, even the Sahara is only $100 a night!!! There are ALOT of options available for lodging, and space in Vegas. The DOA failed at arranging this event properly. Depending upon what kind of events were to be hosted at such an event would of course formulate into the great equation of where to host the event. Red Rock in my opinion was a HORRIBLE choice. 1. Where did they plan on having a car show? 2. If you were to have driving tours of places, or even off-site activities, it's way on the extreme side of the valley, so it just complicates logistics further by increasing drive times. Properly planned and thought out by the right people, Vegas would not only be a great event, but a really affordable one for everyone who wanted to attend. I know it can be done. Because most of all, you need to attract people to these events. Host things that not only everyone want to to (personally I'm not up for more wine snobbery), but make it accessible for them to do it, by making it affordable for all. -Robert vin 6585 "X" --- In dmcnews@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx, "tuxr" <tuxdarby@...> wrote: > > I'm not too familiar with DOA, but always consider going to a > Delorean event.
