When you use WD40, Yes all of the 5% oil goes on and a large part if no all the propellant evaporates almost immediately. The small amount of oil that is left over will be absorbed into the rubber surface and dissipates it's gone. That is still 100% oil you are putting on the hose! I agree it probably doesn't mean much but I still do not like putting oil on rubber hoses. I have also used liquid dish-washing detergent. IMHO straight anti-freeze seems to work the best and is completely safe to use. BTW don't forget to put the clamp on loose BEFORE wrestling with the hose. Don't ask me how I know!
