It's always been my understanding that Colin Chapman owned the rights to his own VARI resin molding procedure and when he was given the job of engineering the DeLorean project to the production stage he felt it was the quickest and, in his mind, the best route to take. I don't think the EMR molding process ever got far enough along, at least at during that time, to have been considered unsafe. I think it was more a matter of cost and, just as importantly, time. Investors were breathing down DeLorean's neck and wanted the show to get beyond the talking and planning stage and start producing cars. Chapman could get the ball rolling more quickly by using a process he developed and had a great deal of experience with.
