You may have a loose spark plug that the technician forgot to tighten. The 
popping would be the compressed gases forcing the rubber boot up and down. 
Do not continue to drive the car in this condition. If the plug is loose in 
the hole it will wear the threads in the head by the constant motion from 
the compression in the cylinder. If the spark plug IS tight I have heard of 
plugs leaking past the ceramic. You may have to replace the plug if this is 
the case.
