It is always a good idea to have someone who is not directly involved in a risky operation, to observe and act as "safety officer". I know of at least one fatal accident (not a DeLorean related incident) that could easily have been prevented if there had been just one person with no other role but to observe the overall operation and able to call a halt to things for review of procedures if something didn't look right. Sometimes there are no second chances.
