For what it's worth, I owned the car free and clear, and still have both sets of keys. Still no word from the cops. I sent a brief description of the event to the local papers and news stations, since it couldn't hurt anything. No apparent interest. Thanks very much to all who have expressed sympathy. I hope that the conversation that has ensued has made other cars safer.
