Oddly, I think the best thing you can do for your mileage is to increase your horsepower. I will double-check my travel logs to be certain, but I'm pretty sure that I get about 30MPG on long trips with my DMCH Stage II engine. And that is while travelling in the left lane with the speedometer pegged (we drive fast here in Texas). In city driving I usually get about 220 miles from a tank of about 11 gallons. Not bad considering that I drive it like I stole it.
