It's also important to remember that the battery is in the compartment just below all that electrical stuff, and it is NOT sealed in between the compartments. In normal operation there is a fair amount of acid fumes that make their way into the compartment. This is very corrosive to not only the fuse blades, but all the other contacts in that area. This makes a good reason for an Optima battery, or a BMW-style wet battery that is vented outside the car with a small hose directly from the battery.
