Pearce designed the frame to be cut and bolted in this manner. I'm not sure DMC/Lotus did. I'd be cautious about it, it's undoutedly a structural member in addition to being the main source of support for the bumper. It's not all that much in the way to removing the engine, by the way. Just remove the facia and pull away!
