Still got three of the bloody boxes being looked at in an attempt to fix them - the usual "replace all the chips" didn't work. I've also seen a bad ignition ECU that was putting out spurious pulses and confusing the idlespeed ECU. I only found the problem because I had a digital timing light set to "tach" on #1. It kept flicking from 850 to 1500 momentarily and back down. The idle was what I'd call "fluttery", and the spurios signals wasn't enough to affect the rev counter.
