What you describe is usually a symptom of inadequate or improper spark. If that is your problem for sure it is hard to say. I assume it revved fine before all the maintenance and modifications. I would be suspicious of the vacuum line routing, spark timing, and the resistor for the coil. If the resistor is incorrect, as in too much, the spark will not be strong enough. That is what it sounds like - under load the engine needs a strong spark and the light is going out.
