Every panel is electrically connected together. Without getting to technical it is to optimize the performance of the radio. For practical purposes it doesn't seem to matter all that much. I do recomend that you do try to reconnect it though. There are also little wires under the outer door seals on the front left and right door posts up near the top. More important is to make sure that the restraining brackets line up with the bumper bolts on the bonnet. They are supposed to catch on the bolt in the event of a head-on crash keeping the bonnet cover (hood) from intruding into the passenger compartment through the front windscreen.
