This is also very illegal. You can probably "get away" with it in many states, especially the ones that don't have safety/emissions testing. The cat will slow exhaust flow, and probably steal some horsepower, but it's in there for a reason- better for the environment. If the heat shield is metal, you can probably get one custom made and welded onto your cat for cheap....
