Why? They're not all that expensive and are only a "common" failure item because many cars are still running on the original pump - with that kind of life-expectancy, give me a stock one again! FWIW it cross-references to the Renault 30 TX (same pulley too). Oh, and for the "jobs to do" when intake manifold is off, check the state of the metal pump that feeds the back of the water pump - the one that runs under the "Y" pipe. It's very susceptible to rusting and a coat of Hammerite* is a good idea. Do not be tempted to replace this with a flexible hose, the water pump sucks through this hose and a soft pipe may collapse. * Rust protection paint, can be applied to a rusty surface.
