"Lambda counter" (service interval counter) on speedo cable

I thought gizo on speedo cable was a pulse generator (has 12v in just
like a transducer). Called it "Lambda counter" in earlier post because
I seem to remember once seeing it ID'd as such somewhere. Wiring
diagram calls "service interval counter." Now that I study diagram,
can't figure out what the thing's function is. If diagram correct,
other end is an idiot light. Does speedo cable trigger a reed switch
or something similar inside (if so, couldn't it function as a pulse
generator)?

Re: cable attachment to throttle spool -- am considering approaching
from driver's side and piggy backing to pedal cable. Manually opening
throttle plates WOT doesn't create enough slack (on my car at least)
for the cable to come off, especially since part of it will be held to
spool by tension of cruise cable. Cruise shouldn't be WOT anyway.

If worse comes to worse, Audiovox did give me some magnets...
